HBRobotics Mailing List

The Home Brew Robotics Mailing List provides a place for robotics enthusiasts to discuss all aspects of robotic systems.

If you are interested in subscribing to the list, you can use one of the following methods:

Method 1: For people who have their Web Browsers set up for email, just click on subscribe or subscribe to the digest or unsubscribe. A properly addressed, empty mail message will be created. Then just send it.

Method 2: If the above does not work, then you will have to create the email by hand. This is not too difficult.

Just create a new email message and send it to:

hbrobotics-join@WildRice.com

Leave the body of the message empty. Anything you do put there will be ignored.

To unsubscribe, do the same thing, using

hbrobotics-leave@WildRice.com

For digests, do the same thing, using

hbrobotics-digest@WildRice.com

With either method, you should get a confirming email back, generally within an hour, to verify that the subscription address works. You must send the confirmation back within 24 hours to complete the subscription.

The Ground Rules

Standard list rules apply: No cussn', flaming, or spamming. New release announcements that have to do with robotics are valid, but keep them simple and provide a URL for the bulk of the message. Provide information, not marketing drivel.

The list requires that all posts come from people who are subscribed to the list (or digest list), so make sure that the address that you subscribe from is the same one that you will be sending messages from.

If you stop getting messages from the list, it may be because I have been getting bounce messages back when the list tries to send to you. The only way I have to resolve these is to delete you. If this happens to you, get your email problems cleared up, then resubscribe.

Questions to the list can range from basic to complex and robotics is a huge field. No one is an expert in all fields. Many of us are strong in one or two of the three main areas (Mechanical engineering, Electronics, and Software engineering), but weak in the others, so you will often see questions by people who are very strong in one area ask basic questions in another. These questions are encouraged as we all learn from each other. If you do not know, and cannot find the answer to a question in your weak topics in the available doc, ask. If you know the answer, share it in a way that others new to the area can gain a foothold to the knowledge. If we get a question too often, we can add it to the builders book.

Please try to keep your signature lines short. It is recommended that you use four lines or less.

While the traffic is low, I will allow most anything but spam. If the traffic gets high, I will want the chatter cut down.

Otherwise, I will let you know if I think that something is getting out of hand.

If you need to contact me, send a message to WebMaster@WildRice.com.

Welcome to the List! -Chuck-
