I had a problem putting on my make-up... I bought the "wrinkle" kit (latex-based), and I found out how DIFFICULT it is to put on make-up AFTER you put on the liquid latex. I've been lurking out here since July, reading some great ideas. No, John, Bloomington dosn't have a Jaycee chapter. Sorry. My chapeter's president says they tried to get one going last year, but it didn't work. I'm from Columbus Indiana, about an hour and a half away from John Jefferies at Mr.Scary Productions. I'm heavily involved in our Jaycee Haunt in Columbus. >From the list that Lauren, (I think) put on her web page, I found out about how close to me John's haunt was, so I got to visit it this year. Thanks for that web page! I was impressed! He has this large structure that he has totally converted into a labyrinth of surprise and scares. From the moment you got out of your car, you knew you were in for a treat. With the teakie torches lining the path, to the clown ghoul that wandered the crowd, and the eerie music, there was no mistake you were in for a thrill. (and yes, I did notice the police officer watching the fire and torches and making sure everything was ok. I also noticed that there was no open flame within a certain radius of the building. Safty!:) ) As you approached the ticket hearse, there were not one, but TWO trash can traumas, one with a light added inside for extra effect. There was also a rather bulky looking guard ghoul there to let you in. ( I bet he could also sort out the ones too timid to go through. If you couldn't manage to walk by him, you didn't need to go inside!) Once inside, you entered a maze of surprises. Tight feeling hallways throughtout. Floors, wall and lighting changed constantly. You were constantly going through curtains, some lead to the next hall, some to the next scene. You never knew what to expect! Lots of different scenes, Tons of characters! All of them obeying the no touch rule. Like John has posted to this list before, scares from every direction - left, right, UP, DOWN. Not from two directions at once though, which was a nice out so you could turn your back somewhere. There were several spots that might have had spooks that didn't, which just added to the suspense. (Would there be something or not?) I definately give John's haunt a two thumbs up, and, at $5.00 admission, a great scare for the buck. Jim Kadel (JBKadel@gnn.com) However there was an evil wind blowing all afternoon that threatened to destroy the tarps enlosing my porch. I hang their top eyeholes via a short chain from ceiling eyescrews. Their bottom eyeholes are held by short rubber tubing tied around a low rail (almost floor level). Each high velocity gust, and coresponding "snap of these tarps" had me extremely anxious. Thankfully, the tarps held and the wind stopped as darkness arrived. Reply-To: halloween-l@netcom.com After "blowing my wad" on the party last Saturday and working my night job until 1:30am on the 30th, I wasn't sure how much I would have to offer the trick-or-treaters this year. I took my cammo netting and draped it from the porch lights on either side of the front door down to the hand railings. I put a tiki torch in the yard to throw off some eerie light. I put on my drab green jumpsuit and a mask and sprawled out on the porch in the most "dummylike" position I could mus- ter. Group after group of kids approached the door cautiously only to be sent scurrying when I'd jump up and yell. That's all it was - a sudden leap up and forward and a loud roar. They never stood a chance. :) I'd say the only kids who weren't affected were the ones who saw it happening to others as they were headed in my direction. A few of the better stories, briefly: The girl (about 14 or so) who jumped a foot when I did. All of her friends quickly and readily admitted how much I'd scared them. She said "I have to say - you didn't scare me at all!" I replied: "Ahh...but you jumped!" I've never seen anyone blush that color of red in my life. :) One boy about 12 to 14 who approached the door and gave me an icy stare (pre- sumably in his best Clint Eastwood fashion). He cavalierly sidestepped me and knocked on the door. I could tell the poor kid was obviously in the throes of puberty when he squeaked a scream out when I jumped up... ;) I let one group poke and prod me for a while before jumping. They also ob- served that I wasn't breathing ("Look! He's not real! His chest isn't moving!"). I thought they'd pee their pants. Intrepid wife Amy took our kids around the neighborhood. She was 3 or 4 blocks away and heard kids yelling to each other "Hey! Where's the McIntire house?" My 10-year old who gets a nervous stomach at the mere mention of the word Halloween (can't be from my gene pool ;) saw a guy passing out candy who was doing his own swell job of scaring the kids. Apparently, he was giving me a run for my money. She saw him and said to my wife "Dad has that mask!" You don't know how far she's had to come to be that nonchalant! This has to have been my most successful year yet between last Saturday's party and the Big Night last night. First off...Laytonsville, MD is indeed a great setting for a good haunt. Bill and I had discussed teaming up for a haunt last year when he thought he had access to an old house not far from his home, but it was not to be. :( It's a "sleepy village" kind of place, in some ways similar to the small towns in the Cobleskill/Middleburgh, NY area (Hi, Jane!). Bill's home is fronted by one of the main roads through Laytonsville, so I know he gets a lot of traffic. In fact, he has to have set some sort of record for a high "drive by viewing" to low trick-or-treater ratio. Poor Bill and Connie. How they longed for human companionship! ;) The centerpiece of Bill's set up is a simple cemetary bathed in a pale blue light. Images of the scene are in the halloween-l archives. I believe there are 5 or 6 tombstones, a skull pile, and a fence that Bill dug up which has tons of character. The Grim Reaper with the glowing red eyes stands guard over the family plot. A red revolving beacon light completed the scene nicely. On the porch was a massive spider web (cargo net), spider, and a skeleton of an unfortunate soul trapped in the web. This was all lit very effectively with a 48" blacklight (which my kids loved...they were amused to no end with the way we all looked under the light). On the other side of the porch hung a ghost which my son recognized as a sound activated device. He clapped his hands several times, but there were no batteries installed. No matter. He went back to the blacklight to amuse himself. In my opinion, the piece de resistance was the midi tracks which Bill had playing. When we got out of the car, Grim Grinning Ghosts happened to be running. Sound quality (to my untrained ear) sounded excellent and was a nice balance to the visual scenery. Evil Doc Stu suggests thunder/strobe/color organ somehow mounted on the roof to take advantage of the huge trees and some creative way to get people who slow down on the road to actually stop and pull in, get out of their cars and ring the doorbell. Very nice job, Bill and Connie! You don't need to tweak much. You're doing a fine job without going overboard. Congrats on all the car honks! - Stu stuart.mcintire@uage.com From owner-halloween-l@majordomo.netcom.com Fri Nov 1 08:54:41 1996 Date: Fri, 01 Nov 1996 11:41:50 -0500 From: ROGER ALEXANDER To: halloween-l@netcom.com Subject: John Jeffries haunt review - LONG! Reply-To: halloween-l@netcom.com Well well! My nerves have finally calmed down enough to do this review of John Jeffries' haunted house at Harrodsburg, IN. Went there last night with my wife Susan at John's request and checked it out. And there is only 1 word to sum it all up and that is *AWESOME*!!! And John, forgive me if I forget some of the areas or details. It was plainly information overload! ;) NOTE: If you plan on going to see this (runs through Nov 2, 7-11 pm), don't spoil it for yourself by reading further. Go see it, then read on. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! >:) And another note: make use of the porta-potties before you go in! You'll be glad you did! When you first get there, the first thing you notice is the double row of party torches lining the way up to the big red building that is the haunt. Out front is a large tent with army camo net around it. The entrance has actual funeral parking signs on each side which they use to block the entrance during a break or closing time. They had several fires going (was chilly out!) and several ghouls out scaring people (girls were screaming everywhere!). All of the costumes were excellent and my particular favorites were the business man they had just "dug up" and had leaches all over his face, and the heavy metal skull head (sorry John! was the best description I could think of!). The music of the new movie "Dracula" was playing which was fantastic! Really set the mood! As you went inside the tent, a "cattle chute" setup was in place for crowd control. Understandable. several ghouls would show up to scare people. And to my delight he had a version of Trash Can Trauma up and operating (no arm). Was a real scream! Also, graveyard with an excellent ghoul animitronic going hovering over a gravestone, and yet another version of Trash Can Trauma, only this one was in a laundry hamper! Fog machine going to give an excellent environment enhancment. The ticket taker was sitting in the back of a 1950's (?) era hearse with an antique coffin inside and a skeleton driver. All I could think was if just the entrance was this good, I couldn't WAIT to get inside! And I wasn't disappointed. Chains rattled as we went in. First we was jumped by a ghoul coming out of a furnace. Next down the hall, the living spirit wall. I knew how it was done, but just as I tried to touch it, it was hard! Major surprise! (More on this later). Turning the corner was a display of a full size alien lying in a futuristic coffin lit by rope lights. Excellent affect! After that, in the following hall way you had to watch your step cause the floor shifted back and forth. Caught both of us and I almost went for a tumble. Nice surprise John... Onward... The next room was a guillotine with horrorific attendants. Very realistic. And just to make you jump, just as you get ready to leave, they drop the damn thing and scare you silly! Like to have jumped out of my shoes... Next, we had a spook room done with major web shooting. 2 ghouls tried to get to you to have you for dinner. In a floor cage next to them was the skeleton of a previous meal. As you turn the corner, you came to a hallway. We could see somebody (or something) hanging up above the exit door. Just as you think it's just a dummy, he jumps down at you to totally scare you silly! Susan just about lost it on this one. Of course, she was screaming the entire time throughout the house. Loved it! Next was the mad Santa! He had blood smeared all over the walls and tree and was pulling the stuffing out of all the stuffed animals he had brought. Susan was crying "oh no! Not Santa!". I thought it was terrific. And the floor was covered by foam rubber. Made you think you was slogging through snow. Now I think I have the following in the right order, but forgive me John if I don't. Next was a hallway painted with zebra stripes and a strobe going. Guaranteed to make anybody dizzy. Ended in a dead end (with somebody/thing waiting for you!). You had to backtrack slightly to find the exit. Going through, was another blood splattered hallway with a strobe going. You get started up the hall when Micheal Meyers appears with knife in hand. The strobe affect really made it more realistic. I thought Susan was going to lose her mind and I have to admit, I got a little worried myself! Out of the hall, was the operating room. A madman was drilling on a woman who was reaching out and screaming for us to help her and not leave her there. A headless body lay next to her. Blood and gore abounded and with another strobe going, the affect was terrific. Operating gear and other torture equipment lay about. Susan actually wanted to go back and help her! At the end of the hall that passed the operating room, we saw a guy sitting in a chair next to a busted tv(?). A dim light would come on, an electrical "frying" sound, and he would twitch in the chair. Around the corner was a cage full of the mechanical ravens screaming "the end is near! the end is near!" I hoped not at that point cause I was having a ball. That is until Freddy Krueger pops out of a dark cubby hole next to the ravens and *I* almost lose it! Thought Susan was going to pass out on that one. Next was a witch in the middle of "woods" stirring a smoking stew pot with somebody's legs sticking out. A ghoul behind you in a hidden alcove made sure you kept moving. Then my favorite. A "swamp" scene with another fog machine going, several bent and twisted trees, swamp grass, pools of water, a couple of dug (washed) up stone coffins, one with a corpse trying to get out of. The detail here was nothing short of terrific! And a girl that looked "zombiefied" reaching out to get you. After that, you came to an empty area that you could see the night peaking through the curtain. The exit! Just as you reach it, in come yet another ghoul! Susan, by this time, was already to do something childish in her pants, and that almost did it (she's gonna kill me when she reads this!). When you get out, you think you're save, but then... Well, you'll just have to go to find out what! >:) Before hand, looked up John and we talked for a bit. Afterwards, we got together again and talked for a long time. He even offered me the professional curtesy of a look "behind the scenes" and took me in to "spook central". The sound equipment he used was fantastic! He wore a wireless mike that went through a voice modifier that made him sound like a booming demon that he taunted people outside and in with. He also had vid cams set up at strategic locations to keep an eye on things. The mixer board and audio equipment were superb. Lighting control was not centralized though, but need not be due to how lighting was used. He plans on having a "panic alert" board for next year so that characters can let spook central know if a "problem" has occurred. He also showed me the secret of the "suddenly hard" living wall, but I'll let him tell you what it is! >:) We then went through it all again, and even the master spook himself jumped a couple of times!! Sorry John! Just couldn't let that go, and besides, it's a compliment to your crew. Afterwards, we talked about effects, his new company (Mr. Scary Productions - http://www.kiva.net/~mrscary), and plans for next year. The crank ghost, more animitronics, and other fiends are just part of what he has in mind. I just can't wait! I must say that the Harrodsburg haunted house was (is) one the better haunted houses in the territory and John was an excellent host. My thanx to him and all his crew for their professionalism and courtesy and for giving me the grand tour. A very spook-tacular job!! hmmm... think we may just go back again tonight and bring some fiends, err.. friends. }:) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Roger Alexander Phone: 812-854-4748 Naval Surface Warfare Center Fax: 812-854-3508 Bldg 64 Code 111RA Crane, IN 47522 INTERNET: rda413@smtp.nwscc.sea06.navy.mil Supporting the Fleet through Supply! Each high velocity gust, and coresponding "snap of these tarps" had me extremely anxious. Thankfully, the tarps held and the wind stopped as darkness arrived. First, I want to thank everyone on the list for all of their great ideas, and most importantly, for the encouragement to keep going. Every year I keep asking myself why I spend so much time building my haunt for the few hours that it's put to use. This year, the enthusiasm of every one on the list helped me thru some of those all-nighters and missed dinners. Of course, hearing the screams as people go thru my haunt reminds why I really do it. And then there's the list of people that every year tell me that they always come by the house on Halloween night just to see the monsters when they get moved to the front lawn. I only joined the list in September, so I was only able to include a few ideas into my haunt this year. And I've posted a few technical things that hopefully you have been able to put to use. But to pay back all of you for help and encouragement, I plan on posting directions to some of the effects that I have created. I apologize that I didn't do this before Halloween, but you all know what kind of time it takes to build a haunt. With all the time I devoted to just reading the list, I didn't have time to write the directions down. When I'm done putting everything away, I should have plenty of time to post them. Some of the things that you can look forward to are: - pnuematics: . Jack-in-the-Box . Arm's Up! . Dracula Rises . T-Rex Attacks - motor controlled . Hat's off . The Mouse - electronics: . 20,000 volt shocker . Delay timer . Relay controls and much more. Hopefully this will encourage many of you to stay active on the list. I know that I will. Reply-To: halloween-l@netcom.com Well Greg, I must say I am exhausted! I took yesterday off and was still racing to finish at sundown. I got it all out though and was pleased at the comments received from children and their parents. One set of parents commented that the house looked fantastic and even thanked me for doing it! (That guarantees at least another year of this :) ) Two things really were appreciated by the visitors: 1) 2 48" blacklight bulbs illuminating the driveway. On the driveway in glow chalk were footprints (changing between monster and human) and a chalk outline of yours truly with the badly and incompletely scrawled words 'help me'. Half the fun was seeing the kids laugh at each other with their now-glowing teeth and eyes. 2) The other was the fog machine. Having the remote their to pump out the fog when needed cut down on usage and produced it when necessary. The fog spewed out of some pumpkins behind the graveyard and really made the whole area spooky. Now it's time to work on the stuff for next year, but I might have to take a week or so off just to get some rest :) Keep the local haunts going Greg, although you can offer assistance to the community ones. Hi, Doug. Thanks for keeping in touch and for your opinion re: personal or public haunts. I agree with you that the blacklights are a perennial favorite with kids and adults. I envy your fog machine. That's a "maybe, someday, I wish" item for me. Will you be able to get some photos up on a web page? I'm going to give it a try as soon as I get my pics on disk back from Price Club. Keep in touch over the year as time allows and perhaps we talk about future plans, collaborative efforts and ??? The cylinder is 15 inches long but extends to 40 inches, I want the "clown" head to lift much higher than a typical air cylinder would to clear the box but not add additional mechanics... keeping things simple. Crank rotation will be by gear motor which will also drive the music mech. (going into an amp.) from a tin Jack-In-The-Box toy. I'm using the toy music mech. to get the cheesy sound and to keep perfect sync. with a variable crank speed instead of a recording, whether tape or sound chip. Activation of the unit will be by wireless remote instead of IR. or sensor to allow me control how often, how fast and when it goes off. Denny B.T. Can you tell us more about >it? It's pretty easy to build. It's kinda like a double paned window with water between the sheets of plexi (or glass). If you look at it from the top, It would look something like this: ___________________ | ______________ | | | | | | -------------- | ------------------- (My pathetic ascii attempt). Obviously, there are no gaps. Use a good sealant at all the joints. There needn't be a large gap between the panes. We had a big gap and the plexi we used was thin, so there was a slight bow/bulge in the sides as a result. Hardly noticeable, though. Inside the smaller box is dry. Set upright, a person can sit under a table and the aquarium can be placed over their head. Add an aerator and you've got your basic aquarium set-up. Other details that could be added? Aquarium gravel, heater, sunken ship, treasure chest, etc. If your gap is large enough, maybe a few tiny guppies. You could set it up on legs or a stand and give the illusion of an opening under the aquarium by placing a mirror at a 45 degree angle pointing down and towards the viewer. The surface of whatever the aquarium is sitting on is reflected and the viewer thinks the aquarium is ele- vated off the table. >You wouldn't happen to have a jpeg, would you? We pretty much stuck with the haunted porch thing. (wait 'til next yr!) We had lots of great spider webs (w/inhabitants) on porch & in our tree in front. We hung the webs awhile back but on the big day we pulled the webs in the tree so that they would hang down (lower than adult head level) over our sidewalk. Light wind kept it moving somewhat & it really drove the t-or-t parents & teen t-or-t'rs nuts! Plus, it distracted them while they approached the house. We had 2 milk jug skeletons. (recycle those jugs! I do have simple directions. These look pretty good, especially with blue glow-in-the dark paint & backlit by an 18" blacklight) We had a graveyard, chalklines, another skeleton. Several carved pumpkins spread out on trays in the dark in front of the house to 'expand' the set-up. My 13 yr. old had a blast sitting in a black-draped chair on the porch, dressed all in black, with a mask that glowed green. From the street, all you could see on the porch was a glowing green floating face, 2 glowing blue skeletons, & webs. A lot of slow-down traffic & some drive-up t-or-t'rs who only stopped at our house! When you got to the porch, my son handed out treats with his new 'torn-off-hand-that-still-moves clenched in a glove' prop. _Really_ freaked the kids out! We had some good sound effects going, too. The kids who live behind me begged to move their haunted yard to our place because we're on a busy corner & ours looked a lot better. Plus, more foot & car traffic. (gotta admit, theirs was pretty lame) A few kids would not approach the house, even the 10-yr old girl who lives 2 doors down. My son even told her it was only him! Bad note: dragged everything in last night but webs & chalklines due to serious young vandal-types who made 2 visits & were too interested (in the wrong way) in my props. Kind of disappointing. Strangest parent: Guy who used the black lite to make us all look at his 8-yr old daughter's tooth repair. Seems she broke it & part of it is porcelain & the fix can only be seen in blacklite or something. Too much! Well, I already spent $100 today on next year's party, many props, decorations. (got lots of stuff, what can I say?) MJ Designs is doing 75% off & K-Mart is 70% off. Got some cool giant vinyl rats from K-mart for $3.00! Got party paper goods for .15 a pack for plates, etc. Target had more stuff left but only 50% off. Gotta go to the Halloween Super Store (Dallas) after school today for something my son wants there. Started to go to Garden Ridge but figured I was hitting my one-day limit for things I won't be using for another yr! Won't start serious prop-making till about January, I think. I will be sticking with this list! Everyone's been a big help & I've got some things to throw out there later. karen p. cproctor@flash.net From owner-halloween-l@majordomo.netcom.com Fri Nov 1 13:48:50 1996 From: "Arnold & Sheri" To: halloween-l@netcom.com Date: Thu, 31 Oct 1996 16:42:26 +0000 Subject: X-mas List? Waiting for one of you to ask! The guy who made our 4-stage peppers ghost was the guy I mentioned previously who made all the gargoyles. He got these little flat revolving turntable things from a military surplus place. Then he built two tall boxes to sit on these turntables. The boxes had a front and a back, so it was: 1. Live person in front of box A 2. Beginning to decompose dummy in front of box B (meanwhile spin box A) 3. More-decomposed dummy in back of box A (meanwhile spin box B) 4. Dummy with skull in back of box B. He did all this manually, sitting in the corner of the mausoleum, between the two spinning boxes, with the light board in his lap. Stray light was prevented by pieces of hanging black plastic that he reached through to spin the boxes. He had marked the proper positions of the spinning boxes on the floor with duct tape that he could feel. I hope I have made myself clear. :Nathan ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Nathan Kahn Home: kahnn@pa.net Work: nathan@theatrefx.com Work Web: http://www.theatrefx.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From owner-halloween-l@majordomo.netcom.com Fri Nov 1 17:29:04 1996 Date: Fri, 1 Nov 1996 20:22:09 -0500 To: halloween-l@netcom.com From: kahnn@pa.net (Nathan Kahn) Subject: RE: Read: Another security idea Reply-To: halloween-l@netcom.com >Maybe this is my fault. How about looking into extra-wide ace bandages? Between now and next Halloween, you have plenty of time to drop them into a bucket with some grey Rit dye. Seems like they should be flexible enough to allow freedom of movement and, since they are attached with those little hook-clips, getting in and out of the costume means little more than wrapping and unwrapping. Greg PS In a couple of weeks, I'll have the pictures back from my effort this year. I will try to post them onto a web page and will include shots from that night and a daylight layout of the props. I really had to go low-budget and time-efficient this year, so this probably fits your requirements. I'm talking about things like black sheets, laundry detergent, cheapo lights, etc. Don't forget to check out the after-Halloween sales today. You sent a post asking for the address of the Lakewood haunt, which I posted on Nov. 1st (knowing it was late). From your post today it sounds like you think I am the one in Lakewood. You are welcome to come check mine out today, but I am in Tarzana (closer to Dreamscape in Van Nuys), a good distance from Gardena. Will probably tear it down tomorrow :( (so much work, so little time....) Hope this clears things up.... We only had a dozen knocks on our door over a four-hour period! What's really frustrating, is that they all said we had the best display on the street--but of course so few people came by, we aren't sure whether it was worth the effort. We live in La Costa, Calif, and the house is about five-six blocks from homes and lands destroyed in the fire a couple of weeks ago...so we figured (after the fact, of course!) that people simply weren't coming to the area for one of two reasons: 1)They had heard on the news that over a hundred homes had been damaged or destroyed, and figured that there wouldn't be anything standing to trick-or-treat at; or 2)People just assumed that our neighborhoods wouldn't have the collective energy to deal with Halloween so soon after the fires, and so took their kids elsewhere. *Sigh* Oh well, I'm sure it won't be so slow next year...and there are lots of details to work on before then... For the best flavor , use a stainless steel or non-metallica pan. Stir until honey is dissolved; the heaviness at the bottom of the pan should disappear. Use a wooden spoon to skin off the film that rises to the top until the surface is clear. Add the lemon and orange slices, squeezing as they are placed in the water. Cool completely , strain. Pour into a bottle (used wine bottle is good that has a cork) . Store in the refrigerator. yields about 4 cups. Note: Some people find this recipe too sweet. Stir in the honey a little at a time until the mixture reaches the desired sweetness. You can also add fresh strawberries or rasberries or apple if you like in place of the lemon. It is also good when someone has a stomach ache the honey in it will ease it a little . Used by the ancient druids (althouh their's were high in alcohol) during the fall or spring festivals . It is a simple wood box that stands about 4 feet high and uses a bicycle pump to raise the head. No cranks or special music. I rely on the element of surprise and the nice crash the lid make when it opens to get a scream. I've alternately used floor mats, door switches and light sensors to trip it as victims walk by. In fact, it's a lot like Trash Can Trauma without the arm. It was the first of my pnuematic effects. I figure if I can build it without plans, then it should be easy as a first time project for others on the list. Also, it uses techniques that I built on when developing what I call 'Hands Up!' (Actually, I call my monster's by name, and this one is named Karen.) After I get my haunt put away, and pictures developed and on the web, I'll post the directions. I just wanted to whet some appetites with my original post, as I've already seen some people wnating to unsubscribe. -- Happy Haunting Rob Freeman freemanr@oeonline.com From owner-halloween-l@majordomo.netcom.com Sat Nov 2 20:54:19 1996 Date: Sat, 02 Nov 1996 23:45:19 -0500 From: Rob Freeman To: halloween-l@netcom.com Subject: Re: Aquarium Head - Effect Description Reply-To: halloween-l@netcom.com Stuart McIntire wrote: > >That "aquarium head" really piques my interest. Most of the kids think it's cute, so I don't dare remove it from the list of things that I repeat each year. For mine, I use a 'Barbie' make-up doll head that stands about 12 inches tall, from the shoulders up. I found it at a garage sale some years ago. I just put her in a filled 10 gallon aquarium. She's weighed down so that she doesn't float. I drilled a hole through her lips and ran an aquarium hose through the lips and out of the back of her head. This connects to the air pump to push air bubbles out of her mouth. The aquarium is lit with a couple of red C7 bulbs hidden in tin cans outside the aquarium. Like I said, its pretty simple, but the kids think it's cute. One year, I tried putting feeder goldfish in the water, but they didn't last too long.
