The equivalent is often available in a generic form; look for a diaper rash ointment that has zinc oxide in it, as well as vitamins A and D (or cod liver oil, which has A & D). This ointment is extremely thick and white and will stay on the skin but also smear on clothes. I recommend you wear it overnight and put on a gown or shirt over it, or sleep on old sheets. If there is an underlying yeast or bacterial infection, this stuff won't work. However, I've used this on dozens of patients with irritated, chewed-up butts and it works like a charm. I even used it to clear up a rectal fissure. This ointment shields the skin against all manner of secretions... __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Johnson" Date: Tue, 19 Nov 2002 08:51:08 -0800 Jane How about putting the powder on before exercising. That would absorb the moisture. Another idea is to cut up an old 100% cotton t-shirt and place the pieces in the crease between your breasts and ribs, using your bra to hold them in place. Also, cut a 6-8 inch wide strip off the hem off the t-shirt and use it under your stomach apron. I know they make underarm pads to protect blouses (elastic and padding), so check them out at the fabric store and make yourself some for your under arms. I hope you can get some other ideas, too. Also, I thought that water exercise was a good cardio exercise. Oh, well, = ... It keeps the moisture from aggravating the skin and it is thick and soo= thing. You should talk to your PCP about the recurring rashes. If you are= having the problem under your pannus, you could begin documenting the prob= lem for an eventual panniculectomy. -----Original Message----- From: J Panico [mailto:japanico@attbi.com] Sent: Sunday, November 17, 2002 9:25 PM To: Northern Cal RNY Subject: RNY: Rashes Hello, I have been exercising everyday, walking a mile, and I have been getting horrible rashes under my breasts, in the creases of my arms and other plac= es. This was the only thing that would clear up my rashes caused from the dampness before surgery. Post surgery there are no rashes etc. Life is wonderful. Usually rashes in damp places indicate a "yeast" infection, which is a fungus thus the reason for an anti-fungus cream. If they don't go away or get better within a week or so you should call your doctor. It may take a prescription cream to clear it up. Take care. Prayers and hugs to you. Pat ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Re: Rashes From: "Susan" Date: Tue, 19 Nov 2002 14:19:53 -0800 What you may have may not be the ordinary skin rash or prickly heat. You may actually have a topical yeast infection. I frequently get them and = they are much like a rash that itches horribly. I use a miconozole nitrate 2% cream which can be purchased without a prescription. I get the rash and itching in all the places you mentioned and in the creases under my belly, panty lines, and belly button too! I do not apply anything other than the cream; I shower daily and make sure to dry those areas thoroughly before applying the cream. Good luck. ----- Original Message ----- From: "J Panico" To: "Northern Cal RNY" Sent: Sunday, November 17, 2002 9:24 PM Subject: RNY: Rashes > Hello, > > I have been exercising everyday, walking a mile, and I have been getting > horrible rashes under my breasts, in the creases of my arms and other places. > After I exercise I dry the area and have put powder there.. but I have already > gotten the terrible rash when I get home. My solution was to use = an anti-perspirent (not just deodorant) on those spaces where I got the = rashes. Under my arms, under my breasts, and for me it was under my pan as well. Seems to work pretty well. I found that powder just makes things worse. -Chuck- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- End of RNY Digest ------------------------------------------------------------------ Please be considerate and quote previous emails conservatively!
